Shedding light on what you need to know for Cannabis Lighting

As you may know, the Cannabis plant has a very high tolerance for light during its flowering stage. At its simplicity, water and light are converted by the plant into energy or carbohydrates for the plant to grow while oxygen is released. Without proper lighting the plant will be limited in its overall growth potential.

Growers are looking at new and innovative lighting strategies that strategically target lower leaves, addressing light insufficiency and promoting more uniform light distribution within the cannabis canopy. This targeted approach aims to enhance photosynthesis and boost overall plant productivity.

Spectrum will also play a big role in your lighting strategy. Greenhouse grown vs sole source indoor applications require two differing approaches. Greenhouses have the benefit of mixing sunlight with supplemental light. This can allow for more of the supplemental light to have a higher red ratio spectrum to help drive photosynthesis while relying on the natural light to help balance out the remaining light captured by the plant.

Indoor operations will rely solely on what is being emitted from their lights. This requires the spectrum to be broad and balanced, not to disrupt the rate of photosynthesis or change the plant's natural characteristics.
